I think that video was a one time thing, but thank you! My reading voice is quite different from my speaking voice, which I think is less breathy, but more obnoxious and nasally.

Please forgive me for redirecting you with a link, but seeing as I’ve answered this question a few times before, here’s one of my previous answers. I’m afraid my memory is vague, rather dream-like, but not specific, also my favorite thing to do in a new place, is wander the streets and take photographers, and get lost, and sometimes I discover wonderful things and places this way, but I rarely remember their names…

so i have a ton of questions and i hope i don't annoy you but i couldn't find the answers in your faq... i am a nineteen year old student and i am about to graduate. i was always really good in school and really enjoyed it and i wanted to go on and study at cambridge because i whole heartedly liked learning. i flunked in one exam and now i won't graduate with honors (i never flunked in any important exam.. ever). i won't be going to cambridge, and i really feel pretty useless and fucked up. cont

i really dread going to uni here because there is never enough place and it is really badly organised and i also don’t want to end up in a dead end job being miserable and only living for the weekends. so i guess i have decided to travel. like a lot. never ever stoping before it feels good. but i really don’t know where to start i am really fucking very much (!!!!!!!!) afraid that i will fail at this as well. i have never broken out of anything and i really don’t know what to do, where to start and how to do it. everybody around me is deciding to work at a bank or be a kindergardener and i have never meet a dropout. i don’t know my way around i am not really good with people i guess, i am not good at anything except for school. i am not good at relaxing i am not good at letting go i am not good and living day by day i am not good at being carefree but i really want to learn. any advice? oh. i am sorry i forgot to say thank you in advance and you are an inspiration (i think i am really losing my mind over this whole thing)

Don’t fret, the good thing is you’ve figured out you don’t want to spend your life in a dead end job, while you’re still young. Some people don’t figure this out until the end of their life, which is a bit of a tragedy. The uncertainty, a claustrophobic kind of panic of What am I going to do with my life?, is a feeling that I think we’ve all felt before, and frankly, it’s good question to wrestle with.

Some more good news: the only way you could possibly fail at traveling would be to not travel at all. Don’t worry so much about how you began or how it goes, just do it. Sometimes you need to silence your mind to get going at something, and let your heart take the lead, because the mind will try to talk you out of all kinds of things.

Why don’t you pick a place you’re interested in, and book a one-way ticket (don’t over think it), and maybe a few days at a hostel or some other accommodation, and take it from there. Again, the best way to learn how to do these things is to begin doing them. It’s okay if you’re not relaxed all the time, I don’t travel to relax, the travels you’ll learn the most from, probably won’t be the most easy going and relaxing, they’ll be the ones that open your mind, the ones that make you realize you are capable of more than you can imagine, than you can adapt to new things, and be resilient, and overcome. Focus on the journey, don’t worry about the destination.

If traveling doesn’t work out, than do something else, that’s not failing, that’s learning and growing, and it’s a good thing. There’s only one way to figure out whether it is something you’ll love or not, and that is to do it. I have never been someone who knows precisely what to do with my life and how to do it, and that’s okay. Many people will tell you it’s not, but if it’s what works for you, than anything different would be the wrong thing. I hope you’ll travel and have many adventures, best wishes to you, and thanks for your kind words!

hello susannah. thanks to you i have taken the initiative to travel through work exchanges next year. i have two questions. one, would you recommend interspersing the exchanges with some hostel stays so i get to go to different places with more time to myself? and two, i happen to be ethically vegan and i'm worried about it impacting my travel experience. do you think it is possible to be a world traveller with those dietary restrictions? thank you, lovely.

Oh, I’m so happy I could help encourage you to travel! As for your first question, well, it depends on what you like, I think interspersing the exchanges with some hostel visits and some more places sounds lovely to me, but like I said, it really just depends on what you like or want. On helpx.net there’s many work exchanges on organic farms, where the owners are often vegan or vegetarian, so I’d recommend looking for opportunities like that. In general, I think it’ll depend on where you’re traveling, as far as, how easy it may or may not be to find good vegan food, but I’m not vegan, so I can’t really be of much help, sorry.
